We are Long Island's only cross country ski club. Our mission is to promote Nordic skiing and related activities and to give members opportunities to improve their skiing and enjoy other outdoor activities in a spirit of camaraderie and fun. We currently have over 100 members. Membership is open to anyone 21 years of age or older - children of members are welcome. Dues are $10 per household  for the season.
When there's sufficient snow on Long Island we ski locally at such places as Bethpage State Park, Caumsett State Park, Muttontown Preserve and Massapequa Preserve. We also schedule several trips to various places off-island during the season. See the links below for some of our favorites.
Come to one of our meetings to meet us. If you are already a cross country skier you'll find others to ski with whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced skier. If you've never skied before, we can get you started. Cross country skiing is a great way to get outdoors for some exercise in the winter!

Ski Shop Links
Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) in Carle Place and Lake Grove sells XC skiing equipment and has a good selection of clothing for XC skiing. They are oriented toward hiking, climbing, backpacking, etc and are probably the best place to buy equipment locally. A few other local ski shops reportedly rent and/or sell XC equipment but be aware that the equipment they (may) have will be very limited in both quantity and choice and that they are primarily oriented toward downhill skiing. One shop linked is off LI (New Paltz) and probably has a better selection of equipment, but they are oriented toward rock climbers and backwoods skiing. (If you're going to Minnewaska or Mohonk you could rent from them for a day or two.) The best thing to do if you're planning to rent or buy XC gear is to rent or buy at a decent XC ski area (the one's linked above are all good) or better yet, if the area permits it, rent "demo" skis with an option to buy. Be sure to phone the shops before you go to them to make sure they have what you are looking for. See links to shops above.
A few words about renting or buying xc equipment.
